When amnesia sweeps the world, a man with no memory takes part in an experiment to reconstruct his identity. Venice, 2020. Winner of more than 10 international awards.

We talk a lot about “the new normal” these days. Christos Nikou’s outstanding debut taps into that conversation with a memorable portrait of a man whose new normal begins with a blank slate. When Aris is found on a bus with no ID and no memory he becomes Patient 14842 and joins the ‘New Identity’ program. In this odd retro-future world Aris is given audio cassettes, a Polaroid camera and a set of activities designed to help him establish a new sense of self. Then he meets a woman on the same program, only a few days ahead of him. Coincidence? Or is a dark social engineering agenda at play? Nikou triumphs with an intriguing and affecting tale dotted with arresting absurdist humour. Executive produced by Cate Blanchett.
