Why Not You

Directed by Evi Romen, 2020 Austria, Belgium 108 minutes
Rentals are limited — Book now

Evi Romen’s debut feature tells the sensitive story of Mario, a restless young dancer from a conservative village whose best friend is killed in a deadly attack on a gay bar.

Winner of the prestigious Golden Eye Award (Focus Competition) at Zurich Film Festival 2020, Why Not You tackles timely issues and packs plenty of punch. Mario (Thomas Prenn, Biohackers) is full of hope when visiting Rome with best friend Lenz (Noah Saavedra, And Tomorrow the Entire World). When tragedy strikes, Mario is forced to return to his narrow-minded South Tyrolean community. Romen’s screenplay casts an illuminating eye on survivor guilt, homophobia and intolerance as Mario’s search for answers leads to a chance reunion with Muslim friend Nadim (Josef Mohamed).

Evi Romen was born in Bolzano, Italy. She edited over 40 feature, documentary and TV projects before debuting as a writer-director with Why Not You.

After renting, the film will be available in your account to watch at any time during the Festival viewing window; from 12th November, 12 PM – 21st November, 11.59 PM.
